Device Mode

A device mode is a collection of predefined page formatting attributes for a device translation table. It controls the number of columns and lines, character width, line depth, and page orientation. Each printer device translation table has its own set of modes.

The printer device translation table is specified in Device Type.

For example, if the Device Type is P_POSTSCRIPT, Device Mode0 is normal A4 and mode 2 is U.S. Letter.

The mode settings overrule the settings of the Microsoft Windows default printer. For example, if the page orientation of the Microsoft Windows default printer is set to landscape, and the page orientation of the Device Mode is portrait, the document is printed as portrait.

Caution: It is recommended not to specify Device Mode for a print job model that is intended for user control. Because Uniface uses the Device Mode to calculate page formatting and the user can select a different page size or orientation, it can lead to incorrect printing results
