Rename a Development Object

You can rename an object in-line in the Structure Editor, or in the Properties Inspector.

The names of Uniface objects can be any combination of up to 60 alphanumeric characters, including (A-Z, a-z), digits (0-9), and underscores (_), but must begin with a letter. For more information, see Naming Rules for Uniface Development Objects.

Note:  Although you can enter letters in lowercase, Uniface converts these to uppercase, so you cannot use upper and lowercase letters to make names unique.

Use Windows conventions for renaming files:

  1. Click inside the Name property of an object.

In the Structure Editor, you can right-click the object and choose Rename from the context menu.

  2. Enter a new name for the object and press Enter.

As you type, suggestions are provided when renaming an entity, field, or label. You can accept one of the suggestions or continue typing to give the object a new name.

    • For entities, suggestions are for modeled entities.
    • For fields, suggestions are offered only if the parent entity is modeled.
    • For labels, suggestions are offered for all fields in the component, not just those of the current entity. Labels can be located outside an entity and can be associated with any field. Suggestions are in the format Field.Entity, which is the syntax for associated label names.

If you enter a non-existing name for a modeled entity or field, it becomes non-modeled.
